SpaceX Recruits Hollywood Costume Designer To Create Its Spacesuit

The days of bulky and boring white spacesuits could be over if SpaceX has its way with orbital apparel.

The American company backed by Elon Musk recently recruited one of Hollywood's legendary costume designers, Jose Fernandez, to pen their in-house spacesuits ahead of its human space exploration program.

Who the hell is Jose Fernandez, might you ask? He's the guy who brought cinematic costumes such as the ones in Batman v Superman, Oblivion, Tron: Legacy, The Avengers, Iron Man and Jupiter Ascending to life. More importantly, he knows how to make a functional suit look damn cool.

Musk himself is no stranger to outlandish statements (see: bioweapon filters) and he has in the past claimed that he wants future astronauts to look “badass”.

“Our spacesuit design is finally coming together and will also be unveiled later this year. We are putting a lot of effort into design aesthetics, not just utility. It needs to both look like a 21st century spacesuit and work well,” Musk added.
