New Apple Leak 'Confirms' The iPhone 7 Release Date

It's nearly that time of year again: the season when Apple devotees chuck their perfectly good phones in the bin in favour of newer, more expensive versions with minimal actual improvements. Evan Blass, a tech reporter for VentureBeat and provider of reliable leaks, claims to know the exact iPhone 7 release date.

Blass set off a frenzy when he tweeted that the release would happen the week of September 12. Looking at Apple's release history, Blass then extrapolated the most likely dates for iPhone 7 milestones. He predicts that pre-orders will begin on September 9 with the release following on Friday, September 16 (previous iterations of the phone have also released on Fridays). Taken together, those two dates mean the iPhone 7 will most likely be announced on September 7.

According to Fortune, Blass' timeline aligns with Apple's historical September release schedule. The company “likes to hold special press events after Labor Day in September to unveil its new iPhone,” writes Fortune, and “usually announces a new iPhone towards the beginning of a week, starts preorders on a Friday, and launches the iPhone a week after preorders begin.”

Blass didn't reveal his sources, and as with any Apple rumour, the claim should be taken with a grain of salt until the secretive company offers official confirmation. So far there have been no real confirmations about the phone from the Cupertino tech giant, but gossip predicts a dual camera and the disappearance of the traditional headphone jack.
