Scarlett Johansson Leaps Into Action In Opening Scene Of 'Ghost In The Shell'

After taunting fans with multiple teasers and trailers, Paramount Pictures is now whetting audience appetites with the first five minutes of Ghost In The Shell.

The sci-fi action film, starring Scarlett Johansson, is a hotly anticipated (and already controversial) live-action adaptation of an acclaimed Japanese franchise by the same name. Johansson takes on the role of Major, a special ops human-cyborg hybrid. The official synopsis reads:

In the near future, Major is the first of her kind: a human who is cyber-enhanced to be a perfect soldier devoted to stopping the world's most dangerous criminals. When terrorism reaches a new level that includes the ability to hack into people's minds and control them, Major is uniquely qualified to stop it. As she prepares to face a new enemy, Major discovers that she has been lied to, and her life was not saved. Instead, it was stolen.

The clip opens with Major perched on top of a skyscraper, surveilling negotiations between a cyber-enhanced business man and the President of an African nation. When the meeting takes a turn, Major (literally) leaps into action. Catsuit on and gun in hand, she's ready to take down the bad guys - but not before one delivers a final ominous message.

Opening March 31, Ghost in the Shell also stars Pilou Asbæk, Beat Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Michael Pitt, Kaori Momoi, Rila Fukushima, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara and Tuwanda Manyimo.
