Netflix Confirms 'Making A Murderer' Season Two Is On Its Way

When Netflix dropped its 10-part true crime series Making A Murderer, they had no idea what was in store. CEO Reed Hastings said his only thought was, “I hope it wins some awards, because it's not going to be popular.”

He was wrong, as anyone with an internet connection now knows. The show was an explosive hit, sparking countless conversations about accused murderer Stephen Avery, his co-accused Brendan Dassey, and the American justice system. Fans couldn't get enough. Long after the initial hype died down, they continued to debate and dissect every morsel of the controversial case.

Netflix has good news for those obsessed viewers: Making A Murderer is officially getting a second season, though an exact episode count and premiere date have yet to be announced.

Variety reports that the next installment “will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.” Executive producers and co-directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, who spent 10 years creating the original series, will be back at the helm for season two.

“We are extremely grateful for the tremendous response to, and support of, the series. The viewers' interest and attention has ensured that the story is not over, and we are fully committed to continuing to document events as they unfold,” said Ricciardi and Demos.

“Because of Ricciardi's and Demos' incredible vision, commitment and keen eye, audiences around the globe became completely captivated by the personal stories of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey and the unique lens their experiences provide into the criminal justice system,” said Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of Original Documentary Programming. “We're thrilled to be continuing our longstanding relationship with the filmmakers, and look forward to giving our global viewers eagerly anticipated updates on this story.”
