Is drone racing the world's next great sport? Dubai is determined to make it so. The city is hosting the first-ever World Drone Prix this month, with a hefty prize fund of US$1million. Over 100 teams are set to pit their robotic fliers against each other in a high-speed clash for victory on March 11th and 12th.
To build excitement for the competition, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum - Crown Prince of Dubai - linked his Instagram followers to an epic promo clip. The video shows a racing drone go head to head with a Dubai Police McLaren 650s accompanied by colourful visuals and a dynamic electronic sound track.
The high-tech duo duck, dive and weave through illuminated gates designed to look like something from a video game. The video even goes 'split screen' and boasts graphics about 'unlocking achievements.' In typical Dubai fashion, the clip is flashy and fabulous, with both the McLaren and the drone - and the city itself - looking absolutely stunning. Watch it above and try not to get hyped.
