Hugh Jackman's final appearance as the iconic Marvel superhero known as Wolverine is already in the works, but the third instalment will see something entirely different from its predecessors - a solid R-rating (MA in Australia).
Simon Kinberg who is the producer of the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse film confirmed with Collider that the next Wolverine film will receive the more grown-up rating due to the unprecedented success of Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool.
“It's a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you've ever seen in any of these movies,” Kinberg told Collider.
“I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumoured to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It's violent, it's kind of like a western in its tone. It's just a very cool, different film.”
Naomi Watts' husband and actor Liev Schreiber has also been rumoured to return as the animalistic Sabretooth who is set to reignite his rivalry against Wolverine.
Blood, claws, dry wit and action. It's certainly going to be hard to fill Jackman's shoes once he leaves the franchise and iconic role, but nonetheless he'll be going out by doing the character justice.
The final Jackman-Wolverine film is slated to be released on March 3, 2017.
